Like so many in every industry, we use acronyms for the many stakeholders involved in the exploration and mining industry in Nunavut. Below is a list of a few of the acronyms you will hear when working in Nunavut.

CanNor – Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency

CIRNAC - Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada

EDT – Government Of Nunavut Department of Economic Development & Transportation

GN – Government of Nunavut

IIBA – Inuit Impact & Benefits Agreement

INAC – Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, now CIRNAC

IPG – Institutes of Public Governance such as the Nunavut Water Board, Nunavut Impact Review Board and Nunavut Planning Commission

KC – Kitikmeot Corporation

KitIA – Kitikmeot Inuit Association

KivIA - Kivalliq Inuit Association

NGO – Non-governmental organization include the Inuit Organizations and regulatory agencies

NIRB – Nunavut Impact Review Board

NPMO – Northern Project Management Office

NTI – Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.

NWB – Nunavut Water Board

NPC – Nunavut Planning Commission

QC – Qikiqtaaluk Corporation

QIA – Qikiqtani Inuit Association
